Landlords with over 2000 units in Baltimore City, Howard County, and Salisbury, MD filed suit to allow them to increase the rent during the COVID crisis.
Baltimore City was among the first jurisdictions in Maryland to enact a law prohibiting rent increases during the COVID emergency.
Howard and Salisbury soon followed suit.
Now all three jurisdictions face lawsuits from landlords which is somewhat unbelievable considering we are still in the throes of the pandemic.
The audacity of the landlords to file the lawsuits before the state has fully re-opened and at a time that COVID cases have actually gone up relative to the last few weeks is something to behold.
Cases such as this are likely to wind up all the to the highest court, Court of Appeals. Therefore, it is likely a resolution is not anywhere close.
That means that tenants are unlikely to face rent increases anytime soon.
