Baltimore County could see 24,000 evictions filings in a single month after the pandemic moratorium is lifted per the Baltimore Sun.
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to devastate everyday life.
That is staggering. So many families would face the potential for eviction during the colder months of the year and just as the holiday season begins.
It could be a brutal holiday season in Baltimore County and most of the country where evictions which were banned for months are now allowed to proceed.
To step and protect families, Baltimore County and other Maryland jurisdictions have offered financial assistance to families.
The county is looking to give an additional $2 million to 545 families.
In addition to that direct assistance, Baltimore county officials have proposed limiting rent increases.
The county has also prohibited utility shut-offs through November 15, 2020.
However, that seems to be inadequate given that winter is coming and shutoffs then would be devastating.
The county and other jurisdictions will have no choice but to keep innovating and addressing the ongoing financial upheaval wrought by the pandemic.
