A recent uproar has been created by the fact that creditors including your very own bank could steal your stimulus from you during the pandemic.

A CBS News story covers this issue showing how it works. For example, you may have a writ of garnishment or other legal process sent to your bank by a creditor who has a judgment against you.

Or worse your stimulus check gets sent to a bank you owe fees such as overdraft fees.

The banks or your creditor can steal those stimulus funds right in the middle of this crisis while you are counting on that money to stay afloat.

It is possible more shame from doing such a horrible thing durin gthe crisis may stop these creditors from stealing your stimulus.

But if they do not, Maryland and other states have legal protections that you can use.

In Maryland, you can protect up to $5,000.00 from a judgment creditor. This is part of exemptions available to Maryland residents.

It requires you to file a motion with the court so you have to act quickly before the right to use the protection expires.
